| Using the OMGST
Mileage Database:
Finding the distance between any two key points in the OMGST Mileage Database
is extremely simple. You simply point and click on the alphabetically
listed origin and destination points in their respective columns and the
mileage is automatically calculated and displayed below. This mileage
listing is the shortest distance between these two points, including farm-to-market
roads and ferries.
Calculating
Tie-ins using the OMGST Sectional and Inset Maps:
Calculating tie-ins to points not listed as key points in the
database is also a relatively simple matter using the OMGST map set.
There are two methods depending on whether your origin/destination points
is a key point or not. If either your origin or destination point is
a key point, one simply adds the distance calculated by the database
to the key point closest to your destination to the distances indicated
in-between highway intersections on the maps to get the total mileage. |

Example: Building supplies warehouse 1.5 miles west of Bergstrom AFB on Hwy 71 to State Prison Unit Jester #3 Distance from Bergstrom AFB to Jester #3 SPU (from mileage database) 139.5 miles Distance from Bergstrom AFB to building supplies warehouse 1.5 miles 141.5 miles total If neither your origin nor destination point is a key point, then one simply adds up the distances indicated on the maps to calculate the total mileage between the two points. |
